We're on a mission to unlock human achievement through storytelling, community, writing tools, and expert support, all online.
Story2 makes writing college admission essays a snap. With Story2 EssayBuilder™ plan, organize, and complete authentic essays in less time, with less stress.
Our aim is to empower through story, helping people build the confidence to reveal what matters most to them and to show the world how they will make a difference.
From our earliest days, Story2 aspired to be a diverse online community and a safe space where people can create, share, and inspire each other through honest, vulnerable human stories recorded on video.
In 2014, through TechStars, we developed EssayBuilder™ our one-of-a-kind online writing platform. EssayBuilder is a step-by-step and stress-free way to develop your story, complete college essays, and share your story with friends and community members. EssayBuilder lets you complete your essay on your own or with the support of our trained essay coaches and admissions consultants.
The Story2 team, headed by CEO Carol Barash, PhD, has cracked the code of how to write better by connecting writing with the power of your spoken voice. Telling your stories out loud unlocks creativity and builds overall writing confidence and fluency. With the ability to shape your own stories you gain the power to create deep connections with friends, with admissions officers, and with decision makers behind selective jobs, internships, and special programs. And more than that: storytelling is a vital source of joy and inspiration. It's your story. It's your life. Write life better.

Founder and CEO
I started Story2 to create a future where everyone, from every background, can tell their stories and pursue their boldest dreams. I have been counseling students on college admissions and working in EdTech for over 20 years. I've taught at Princeton, the University of Michigan and Rutgers University, and served on the Douglass College admissions committee. I graduated summa cum laude from Yale University, received full scholarships and completed my MA at the University of Virginia and my PhD at Princeton University.
In 2014 I was included on Top Women in NYC Tech list by Symmetry50.
This summer, Inc. Magazine wrote an article on my leadership experience here: 4 Lessons from a Yale Coxswain

Don't tell the rest of the Story2 team, but I have the best job in the company. I actually get to build the Story2 platform. I am an experienced technologist with more than 15 years of hands-on and management experience in developing technology solutions. My focus has been the education industry. Before Story2, I worked as the Director of Application Development at 2U and the Chief Technology Officer at Unigo. Prior to Unigo, I was an Assistant Vice President at The Princeton Review, and integral to building learning solutions for grades K-12 and college students.

When I saw my daughter struggling to write her high school admissions essays was when I met our Founder + CEO, Carol. Sanaah started using EssayBuilder™ and it changed everything. The work she did on EssayBuilder and with her Story2 Coach not only helped her write essays that showed her curiosity and spirit, but it changed the way she saw herself. She was more confident and saw how much she had to give back. The day I read her essay about my father’s tired hands working quickly to save a cat’s life was the day I knew I had to work at Story2. Now, I am fortunate to say that I get to wake up each day passionate and excited about my job. I now work everyday, with the goal of having every student applying to high school or college tell their story and write memorable essays. I have worked in the education industry for over a decade and have never been so inspired. I graduated from the University of Michigan with a BA in Psychology and completed my MS at New York University. Outside of the office you can find me cheering on the Michigan Wolverines.
By having the opportunity to reinvent myself at Story2, I’ve learned to think about strategic experimentation for workable solutions, while understanding that UX is not about having all the answers, it is about offering alternatives, iterating and moving forward. I have an MS in Digital Imaging and Design from NYU, an BA in graphic design, and UXDI in General Assembly. I am passionate about design. I am very excited to be part of the positive impact that Story2 has on the lives of others, finding every day the right way of expression, and providing meaningful and delightful experiences.
“Your work for us is powerful, and you can add a lot of value to us and our mission… What do you need to say "YES" to Story2?” I had many reasons to say, “yes.” College was my one-way ticket out of poverty, so I’m committed to helping more students access better opportunities. I discovered my path to design only after shedding the insecurities from my upbringing, so I believe in the mission of unlocking human potential through storytelling. The only reason to say, “no” was I didn’t want to fail as a self-taught designer — fortunately I didn’t give in to fear!
I’m excited to lead the redesign of the Story2 experience and help people tell stories that unlock life-changing opportunities. Before Story2, I worked at and voluntarily led several nonprofits, PM'd ad campaigns for some of the world's most iconic brands, and tapped influencers and experts for a few startups. Outside of the office, you’ll find me developing side projects, exploring CreativeMornings FieldTrips, or recombinating leftovers.
Director of Coaching, Courses, and Curriculum
Running back and forth between presenting motions to student council to writing a 20-year plan for our building renovations, to finding enough money in the budget to bring in Salman Rushdie as a speaker, I loved every minute of my first operations role managing the over 200 clubs, publications, and student union building in college. Now I am thrilled to use my obsession with detail and commitment to process to maintain and improve Story2's systems, finances, and data. My other work experience includes operations work for public charter schools and data analysis for various educational organizations. I am currently a Masters of Public Administration student at Baruch College (CUNY), and graduated with my BA from McGill University.
Manager of Community Engagement
I graduated college at the height of the recession. Finding a job was difficult, figuring out what I wanted to do was more difficult. This was when I learned that telling my unique story was what enabled me to connect the vision of my future self, with where I was stuck. Right now that vision is to get storytelling inside of schools so students can unleash their authentic visions of who they are and what problems they want to solve in the world. I am a graduate from The Edward R. Murrow College of Communication at Washington State University. Ask me about: public narrative, Seattle’s aging indie scene and Italian professional soccer.
